Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, one notices a clamor for introducing fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games globally and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
