The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Athletes will gain the right to contest certain decisions from the chair umpire, following the system currently in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move comes just a year after the AELTC implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.
Case in Point
A recent incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews in place at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
